Ranking - It means how relevant a Web page is to the keywords a user enters when doing an online search. It refers to where a Web site or Web page is ranked within search engine results. For example, if your Web site is an Internet dictionary, when a person queries "Internet dictionaries" in a search engine, your ranking indicates where in the search results your page is listed. You will hear it used like this: "My ranking on Google is within the top 5 results!"

Raw click - An exact count of each click a unique user makes, regardless of path or destination. For example, when the same IP address (a unique user) clicks five times, each of these is counted as a raw click.

Reach - In terms of a percentage of the total possible audience, it's the audience you successfully attracted to your Web site with an online ad campaign or interactive marketing promotion.

Reciprocal link - A link placed on your Web site to return the favor of having another site link to yours. In other words, you exchange outbound links for inbound links. It is a form of bartering with the intention that each Web site receives more exposure.

Relevancy - When used in computer searching, "relevancy" measures how closely a document or Web page matches the users' search query. Many search engines return the search results in a hierarchy from the most relevant to the least relevant.

Root server - A machine that has the software and data needed to locate authoritative data for the top-level domains in the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchy. In other words, root servers know which name servers contain authoritative data for .com, .net, .fr, .uk, and so on. Root servers are in fact a special kind of name server. Currently, technical specifications limit the number of root servers to thirteen. These machines are located around the globe-in the U.S., the U.K., Sweden, and Japan.

RSS - Really Simple Syndication -or- Rich Site Summary Put simply, an "RSS feed" is a format for distributing and gathering content from sources across the Web, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Web publishers use RSS to create and distribute news feeds that include links, headlines, and summaries. In other words, it is a format (in XML) for syndicating Web content so as to allow Web site owners and independent publishers the ability to easily share information. The idea is that when the published RSS feed changes, the content fed to your Web site will automatically change too.
